Overview
The KC203 Coffee Scale is a sleek, low profile coffee scale that offers a refined option when looking for a scale that can measure the weight, time and water to coffee ratio when brewing fresh pour-over coffee.
Its nicely curved, minimalist design gives it a very modern feel and compared to a lot of similar scales, the silent setting adjustments when pressing the scales’ buttons is a big plus.
While the scale is meant to be for pour-over coffee, its low profile makes it good for espresso brewing on a machine that lacks height in-between the drip tray and portafilter.
The scale has four settings for you to move between to help meet the needs of the demanding brewer.
‘Automatic mode’ allows a hands-off approach to pour-over coffee by automatically taring itself when setting up your brewer, filter paper and coffee grinds, then starting its timer when it detects the first pour to bloom the freshly ground coffee.
‘Ratio mode’ is a setting that can help homebrewers achieve the same level of consistency without worrying about how much coffee they want to serve; The second set of numbers displays precisely the ratio of coffee to water which is helpful to get the desired strength.
‘Semi-automatic mode’ allows you to prepare your pour-over setup, then automatically tare after it detects you were adding freshly ground coffee, then starts the timer when it senses the first pour to bloom.
‘Manual mode’ keeps it simple by allowing you to tare, start and stop timers with the tap of a button.
This scale has a great look. The unit’s height makes it a really interesting addition to an espresso set-up and could work well if you’re looking for something that can work equally as well between filter and espresso brew methods.
